Have you ever had an idea, but the timing was all wrong on executing it? That was this shoot. It took me two years for all of the pieces of this Tower Grove Park session to come together. Two years ago, a friend and I went and saw the famous cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin in downtown Washington D.C. Because of that trip, I totally fell in love with them! (ok, low key obsessed might be more accurate)
After I came back to St. Louis, I was at Tower Grove Park and realized they had cherry blossoms, too! Unfortunately, almost all of the flowers had fallen off the trees by that point. The trees only have peak bloom for about 2 weeks every year, so it’s really hard to catch them.
Fast forward to spring of 2018, and my life was hectic. I was parenting a 2 and 4 year old, and I didn’t book a session in time to catch the blooms. I did try to get my girls to take some photos with them one evening, but that’s when Tater Tot was most in her “don’t take my pitcher” stage of life. Let’s just say it was a challenging time for this mom who just wanted some cute photos of her girls with the pretty flowers. I was determined that next year, I would photograph SOMEONE in that row of trees!
I am so thankful I was able to shoot with Jessica and John two weeks ago. We had never met before that evening, and we were just Instagram friends, but I’m so glad I reached out to them! It’s one of my favorite sessions I’ve ever done. It’s not just because of the pretty trees, but because we hit it off so well. These two are a really fun and easy-going couple. They just have this chemistry that attracts people to them, and they are genuinely nice and kind people.
Email me to reserve a spot for next year!
When you give your friend your DSLR camera, you tell him to put the little red box on your face, and this happens.
This was my favorite photo from that day, and I have this as a canvas displayed in my living room.
