Meghan and AJ are two very special people to me. I’ve known Meghan for a long, long time and she’s absolutely our go-to babysitter for the girls. In fact, whenever the girls are acting up, I’ll text Meghan and tease her, asking if she knows what her girls have been doing to me! I seriously love Meghan to pieces! So, when she asked me to photograph her Quail Ridge Lodge wedding day, I didn’t hesitate to say yes.
Meghan and AJ built a wedding day that was full of the things that they love – and that are most important to them. That meant there were sunflowers everywhere for Meghan and lots of family for them both. Meghan comes from a big family – she’s one of five kids and they were always known as the “Hei Five” growing up. I know it was special to have everyone together to celebrate such a big moment for her and AJ. And I loved that all day long, the room was just overflowing with excitement and love for the newlyweds. That’s what wedding days are really about: joining families and lots of love.
Looking back at Meghan and AJ’s photos is bittersweet for me. Since the wedding, Meghan and AJ have lost one of her brothers and AJ’s dads. It’s always a harsh reminder to me that these moments, those family portraits that people have a love/hate relationship with on a wedding day… they’re important. They’re so important. As a photographer, I take those portraits just as seriously as I do any other photograph on a wedding day. I hope that Meghan and AJ are able to treasure the portraits from their day and I hope my other couples can, too. Seriously, I know how meaningful these photos become. They’re your legacy.
I hope you can enjoy this look back at Meghan and AJ’s rustic wedding. I’m still pretty obsessed with the sunflower and blue decor combination they chose. I think it’s just beautiful! Congratulations again, you two – and happy anniversary now!!
